Scottish Art - Paintings of England, Too:
Stonehenge Standing Stone Circle
by D. Bruce Bennett
Gray-Day Stonehenge
Very similar to Moody Stonehenge, this version from our Paintings of England collection, depicts an even grayer day. The mist and grayness obliterate everything (tourists, surrounding fence, etc.) so that Stonehenge gives off even more mystery.

While Stonehenge Standing Stone Circle is firmly planted on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, its origins and purpose have been shrouded in the mysterious past for years. Up until the summer, 2006, there was plenty of speculation. Druid temple? Monument to King Arthur? Now, archeologists are fairly certain Stonehenge was part of a large religious complex for sun-worshipping ancients, as far back as 2600-2400 B.C. Fascinating stuff, and it just makes this painting of England, executed in oil painting style, all the more mysterious.
If you or someone you know is a standing stone circle buff, then this original artwork of Stonehenge is just ticket. One of our more popular paintings of England, this is Bruce's fourth version of Stonehenge Stone Circle. (See the others on our Standing Stones page.)
