Scottish Art - Paintings of Scotland:
Scottish Gothic Abbey Window
by D. Bruce Bennett
Scottish Gothic Meets Art Nouveau
Bruce has spent far too much time reviewing our photos of Scottish abbeys, cathedrals . . . and Charles Rennie Mackintosh-inspired artwork. As a result, he’s mushed Scottish Gothic with Mackintosh Art Nouveau to create this quiet and surprising bit of Scottish art.

for a 1200s abbey window. Window from where? Don’t know. By our conservative estimate, we’ve wandered through about a bazillion Scottish, English, and French abbeys, cathedrals, and kirks. Bruce has conjured this one from all those images floating around in his head, so pick your favorite and imagine this is it with some Mackintosh thrown in for a little Arts-and-Crafts action.
Do you have a room in your home dominated by a clear, true blue, much like the color of lapis lazuli? Then this bit of updated Scottish Gothic will fit right in. Since it’s unmatted and unframed, you get to choose the mat and frame that will turn it into a real showpiece for that special room and remind you of the abbeys you’ve toured or plan to tour.
If you're looking for a similar piece of Scottish art of an abbey that really exists, take a look at Bruce's Glenluce Abbey Chapter House Window painting, which he'll be happy to replicate for you. Or commission your own Scottish art from a cathedral window photo from one of your Scottish holidays or one from Ye Olde Bennett Photo Library.
