Hotel Ardanaiseig Loch and Ben View
This commissioned Scottish landscape art (and its companion, Hotel Ardanaiseig Wedding Reception) is unlike any of our other commissions you may have already read about. The whole situation was very unusual for us, as we don't normally ship to the U.K.
A young woman from the U.K. contacted us at the end of August 2006 (two weeks before our four-week Paris and Scotland trip). She wanted Bruce to paint another version of Craigievar Castle in Blizzard as a Christmas gift – a deadline Bruce could easily meet after returning from our trip.
As our e-mail dialogue continued, we learned she was getting married that October in Scotland (the same time we would also be in Scotland) and was requesting this painting for her groom. As she continued searching our website, she asked if Bruce could paint something from one of the photographs they would take on their honeymoon in Scotland. “EXCELLENT idea!” we said, “and it'll have far more meaning for you both than a castle you’ve never visited.”
We went on our trip. They married and honeymooned. Life got busy. The proposed deadline for hubby’s gift moved from Christmas 2006 to their first anniversary – October 2007. Between late January and April of 2007, the client reviewed photos from their wedding and honeymoon, settling on two she'd taken of Hotel Ardanaiseig, Loch Awe, and Ben Cruachan – where they were married – and one of their reception centerpiece and ring pillow, inside Hotel Ardanaiseig. There was much discussion about media, sizes, etc.
By July, we had sent her first color JPG proofs. We went back and forth with e-mails and JPGs till late August.
The client’s brother was living and working in Chicago at the time and planning a trip to London in late September. His trip became the deadline, and he became his sister’s personal UPS man, delivering the goods in plenty of time for framing before their first anniversary in October.
