Scottish Art - Paintings of Scotland:
Highland Castle
by D. Bruce Bennett
Ethereal Highland Ruins
Gossamer wisps of pale yellow and pink blend to form a surreal backdrop for these Highland ruins of the same imaginary Highland castle Bruce painted in Sunrise Over Highland Citadel. You'll notice a good deal of decay seems to have occurred (in Bruce's imagination) between the time Bruce painted Highland Citadel and this one, as one curtain wall is gone now!

Fuchsia and blue brush strokes on each end of this long horizontal picture of Scotland give the merest suggestion of neighboring hills. Just as in "Highland Citadel," stone walls edging an abandoned road lead your eye up to the castle's tower on its rocky perch. And again, maybe a little more so in this painting, Bruce has painted in plenty of the ubiquitous thistle to complement this Highland castle.
Because this version has quite a lot of cool pink in it, this picture of Scotland might look best in a room in which burgundy, maroon, or plum dominate the color palette. Once this Scottish Art is framed in just the right frame for your décor, it'll transport you to the windy hills you've visited on your Scottish holiday (or the ones you intend to visit) - the ones with lonely, abandoned, Highland castle ruins at the top.
And, just like Highland Citadel, this original Scottish Art will encourage you to pause and ponder how life would have been lived in the isolated Highland castles of old Scotland.
