Scottish Art - Paintings of Scotland:
Highland Bull in Blizzard
by D. Bruce Bennett
Blizzard Bull
Shortly before painting the very similar "Snow in the Highlands" painting, Bruce painted this version of a Highland bull in a blizzard. As in "Snow in the Highlands," this original artwork (executed in oil-painting style) shows a tightly cropped, Highland bull staring straight at you during a fierce Highland snowstorm, but this bull is black.

Yes, there are - or at least there were - black Highland cattle. Bruce painted this one from his photo, snapped of a taxidermist's version at the Rob Roy Center in Callandar.
Prized for their rugged constitution, this ancient breed is surprisingly gentle. But it's very likely we don't need to tell you that; the fact that you're on this page probably means youre well acquainted with Highland cattle and may even own a few.
The colors in this original artwork - the cold white of a Highland snowstorm and the snow-softened black coat of the Highland bull caught in it - could blend into almost any color scheme using black. If that describes one of your rooms, contact us about commissioning a piece of Scottish Art very similar to this one.
Have a different color palette in mind? Then maybe commissioning a piece of original artwork of your favorite Highland beauty in a different color scheme is more to the point. Whatever. Just contact us. You'll be in good company. As you can see from the sheer quantities we've sold on-line of this subject matter, our Highland-cattle-loving clients are softies for any Scottish Art that shows off their lovelies.
