Eilean Donan Castle in Loch Duich
by D. Bruce Bennett
Rainy Night at Eilean Donan Castle
Sheets of rain pour down over Loch Duich, Eilean Donan, and the mainland hills beyond, showing it all much as it might have appeared on rainy nights of old (minus the bridge, of course). That would have been when Eilean Donan Castle really was a medieval castle and not the Victorian interpretation we see today.

Positioned over a Pictish fort, this romantic castle boasts a long history of Clan MacKenzie and Clan MacRae involvement. (The MacKenzies officially held Eilean Donan for many years, but the MacRae clan members served as its constables.) Do you have one of these surnames in your family tree? Don't you think you need this dramatic night scene of your clan castle?
Though you can't quite make it out from this image, the crenellated rooftops of the castle are in clear view. We're betting our buyer took this picture of Scotland to a good framer and the recipient is now watching the magic that comes from this Scottish Art - heavy on the blues and grays - in his living room . . . or dining room . . . or hall.
Please note that Bruce accomplishes this rainy atmosphere adding just the right amount of salt at just the right time to his acrylic paint. Though this painting of Eilean Donan was bought by an Aberdeen lass as a surprise gift for her father's birthday, you could you request a similar one. The operative word is "similar," since this technique Bruce enjoys using so much is also very unpredictable.
(Check our black-and-white print of Eilean Donan, too. Its $8 half-off price makes it a downright steal.)
