Scottish Art - Prints of Scotland:
Cross over Melrose Abbey

by D. Bruce Bennett

Beneath the Cross, Melrose Abbey

Inspired by the well-known Christian hymn, "Beneath the Cross of Jesus," this Scottish Art pays tribute to its author and her village. Penned in 1868 by Elizabeth Clephane* of Melrose, the hymn was published one year before her death at age 39. Though she died young, she would've been familiar with Melrose Abbey ruin, a prominent feature of this border village in the 1800s, as well as today.

Prints of Scotland: cloud cross over Melrose Abbey

If you've been to the Borders Area and toured Scotland's border abbeys, you've probably walked the ghostly grounds of Melrose Abbey and wandered among these very tombstones.

Unlike the rest of our color prints, Melrose Abbey, due to its striking vertical composition, will not fit a standard, pre-cut mat or standard-size frame. Customers who've bought this Scottish Art print and turned it over to a good custom framer claim they now have a heart-grabber and a show-stopper on their wall. You can too.
