Scottish Art - Highland Games Posters:
78th Highlander Piper

by D. Bruce Bennett

2003 Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Festival
Commemorative Art Poster

While the faceless bagpiper in this image will be forever anonymous, his uniform isn't. If you're a Canadian Scottish history buff, you recognize it as one of the historically accurate uniforms worn by members of the Pipes and Drums of the 78th Highlanders.

Highland Games Posters: 78th Highlander piper

Garrisoned at the Citadel Fort in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the 78th Highlanders' uniforms, arms - even their pipe tunes - have been carefully researched and replicated from their 1869-1871 stay at the Citadel.

Irresistible subjects for Bruce, (see our half-off Sounds of 78th Bravery), members of this regiment are frequent guests at the Longs Peak games. This lad from our print, Finger Action, was a shoo-in, then, when Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Festival committee members were looking for Scottish Art to advertise their 2003 festival.

We subsequently designed this poster as an upscale memento to commemorate their games - one of the largest of the U.S. highland games. We have about a dozen left, which you may buy on-line now, though it probably would've been more fun to buy at the festival in Colorado’s beautiful Rocky Mountains. When they're gone, they're gone, folks. No reprintings planned.

This upscale, commemorative art poster makes a bold statement on any wall. (Below you can see a larger rendition of the bold type we’ve chosen for the text on this very collectible poster.) Like all our games posters, it's printed on archival quality, semi-gloss, photo paper with archival quality inks. It may be matted and framed or simply framed since we've incorporated a .25" w. white border into the design.
